This study is part of the doctoral thesis "the altarpiece and the sculpture in Guatemala, 16th century to the 19th century" that seeks to know the stylistic evolution in the Hispanic Guatemalan artistic production through historical documentation and analysis of works specific. In this article is describes, in a first part, the context-artistic of the last quarter of the century 17TH, characterized mainly by the introduction of the of the salomonic column and its use in the altarpieces in it old captaincy general of Guatemala because of the remodeling of the Cathedral of the city of Santiago of them Knights. For that reason, around the years of 1669 to 1680, came artists from of Antequera (Oaxaca, Mexico). In a second part, it says in one of them: teacher Agustín Núñez. To end with the description of one of your orders: the design and manufacture of the altarpiece for the chapel of the Royal and Pontifical University of San Carlos, in 1683, coming to become one of the first salomonic works in Guatemala.
