Abstract

Observing the architecture of the nineteenth century and that of the subsequent years allows in the correlation of data and interdisciplinarity to understand symbols and meanings that are included in these buildings. The same ones that contrast and debate the ideas around Independence and praxis until the first centenary (1921). In a holistic process, articulating the meanings of these architectures, it is proposed to observe how the illustrated ideas and the Independence discourses contrast with the Guatemalan reality, reflected in the architecture itself of the Historic Center of Guatemala City.
Although it is true, we have hardly managed to conserve buildings with a hundred
years of life, a situation that calls into question our social conceptions and identity
references, but the spaces incorpórate content or meanings that reflect these dynamics around Independence. Discussing such content, acknowledging the spaces is
our purpose.
