The Importance Of Documentary Research In A Restoration Project. Federation-Type Schools
Keywords:
documentary research, restoration, federation-type schoolsAbstract
As a result of a consultancy carried out for the restoration proposal of three Federation-type schools in Guatemala (Salamá, Sololá and Retalhuleu), a brief documentary investigation was carried out that allowed the detection of two fundamental texts that explain the philosophy that led to generate the specific architecture in terms of spatial
organization for schools of this type, built in Guatemala in the mid-twentieth century,
originated through State Policy during the Post Revolution Government of President
Juan José Arevalo Bermejo (1945-1951). These authorship texts by Arevalo himself,
are considered significant for understanding the architectural perspective of the schools; and they were the theoretical - historical foundation for the approach of the restoration proposal, fostering that the heritage properties must kept their originality and authenticity from the philosophical foundation that gestated them. This demonstrates the importance of documentary research prior to the approach and execution of a restoration proposal, because without it, what was raised and executed would have lacked of the theoretical - historical foundation, which was mentioned above, which describes the philosophy that gave life to these architectural heritage objects.
