Abstract

Guatemala has a strong architectonic tradition, recognized by UNESCO due to its
contribution to the Cultural and Natural Heritage of Humanity such as Tikal, Quiriguá and La Antigua Guatemala. As in the rest of Latin American capitals, in Guatemala, the modern movement achieved notable manifestations in its proposal, at both urban or architectural scales, and also in other less studied areas such as industrial and visual design, not to mention the expressions in plastic arts that are exceptional. However, the modern movement has not been considered of patrimonial importance, for this
reason a group of architects has been working since 2008, in the documentation and conservation of manifestations of the modern movement in Guatemala, ten years after the creation of the chapter of Docomomo Guatemala, it is pertinent to review the most important contributions in the discipline of conservation and preservation of heritage in the country. These contributions have been developed from the political activism, the experimentation of inclusive and participative methodological proposals for the elaboration of Management Plans, Revaluation, Strategies of Integral Revitalization, the elaboration of important written documents for the registry, as well as a communication strategy.
