Churches built by “Cubiertas Ala de Guatemala”

Between 1957 and 1969 "Cubiertas Ala de Guatemala" under the direction of the brothers engineers; Mauricio Castillo Contoux and Pierre Castillo Contoux it was constituted as an extension of the Mexican company "Cubiertas Ala SA", directed by the Spanish architect Félix Candela, who in the Guatemalan company advising part of the executed projects in a cordial relationship of professional collaboration leaving a record of this in numerous writings and photographs exchanged by correspondence, now stored in a file belonging to the Castillo family. Dedicated mainly to the construction of roof sun dearth structural typology of concrete shells in the form of hyperbolic paraboloid, the company allows to generate a different morphology and at the same time cover considerable distances with a reduced number of supports, which was ideal for flexibility in the use of space and immediately to the execution of industrial and religious projects. Thus, of the buildings that were built for religious temples in the country, today are five documented cases.
