Disaster risk perception in urban settlements of Guatemala City:
items for its approach
Keywords:
perception, disaster risk, urbanizarion, urban slumsAbstract
From an anthropological perspective, there
are no studies for Guatemala City and its
urban slums, about how the people settled,
their perceive risk and the components
of that perception as a cognitive process
defining behavioral systems. Therefore,
we propose some initial elements for
a qualitative approach, from urban
anthropology, that can allow the study of
these perceptions and the existing cultural
consensus as a basis to guide public policy.
If only it takes into account the trends in
urbanization and the associated effects
of climate change, this would have to be
considered as a priority issue at least in the
realm of prevention or adaptation.
