Abstract

Anthropomorphic details of the Historic Center's civil architecture of Guatemala City are recorded on the following article, details that denote its context, characteristics and temporality. It raises awareness and promotes conservation. For this, the quantitative method was used. This article aims to turn back to analyze housing as part of civil architecture, to recognize peculiarities of Guatemalan architecture, and to discuss the transition of architectural styles between the nineteenth and twentieth century.

It is concluded, thanks to the 47 details registered that the predominant ones are on openings and simulated columns; that there is no definition as to the location of the property regarding the Historical Center, and the details are associated with Art Nouveau and neoclassic. Furthermore, these details are the principle to identify the relationship between the human being and architecture as a cultural expression, also to detonate the relationship of architecture and elites, i.e. socio-economy, or the purchasing power to build and to include decorative details of this kind in property of Guatemala city at this time.
