The houses of the three courtyards

Abstract

The publication of the book "Las Casas de los Tres Patios" pays homage to the research work carried out by PHd Karim Chew, who died in April 2022. This review describes the central aspects of the book, which addresses daily life and mode of life of wealthy families in Guatemala, at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century, in a type of housing characterized by a distribution scheme around patios. The book deals with some case studies, enriched with diagrams, plans and old photographs that allow us to get closer to understanding how this architectural typology works. The book was presented on November 17, 2022 in the Luis Cardoza y Aragón Auditorium of the Embassy of Mexico in Guatemala.
