From The Shelter To Home, In Search Of The Development Of Popular Architecture Housing In Guatemala

Multicultural and multiethnic aspects, geographic diversity and a young population, provide a framework to the problem of housing in Guatemala. Context in which the housing deficit that theme has been in the hands of the central government showing increasing numbers in the housing deficit reaching
1.6 million requirements. Highlighted in the
subject, aspects of vulnerability, poverty and extreme poverty and the concentration of human settlements in areas like the capital metropolis. In this area raises the question: To what extent have taken into account the conditions of Guatemala to develop a viable solving, effective and efficient strategy needs affordable housing?
Around the question, research shows the involvement of the Guatemalan State in solving the problem, highlights moments of apogee achieved with the involvement of institutions such as the National Housing Bank (BANVI) and international support, generation projects of importance to the care of the needy population. However, legislation and housing policies, leave in the role of facilitator and guiding the process, which acts as a limited to provide subsidies for the construction of single family house, "financial institution of second floor".
