The Mayan pre-Hispanic built space has been the subject of two doctoral theses from the Polytechnic University of Valencia: Andrea Peiró Vitoria (2018) and Oscar Quintana Samayoa (2008); Both documents have a conceptual basis based on the contributions of Dr. Annegrete Hohmann-Vogrin (1946-2009), a professor at the Technical University of Graz. Hohmann-Vogrin, during her time as a student, made multiple trips to Asia,
Africa and Mesoamerica to study ancestral spaces and combine her observations
with the theories and methodologies of post-war European urbanism. In this way he
analyzed and synthesized the structure and meaning of the Mayan cities. His studies
in the Mayan area began in Copan (1970), Honduras and later spread to the entire
Mayan area. In the 1990s, she advised on the spatial analyzes of Yaxhá, Topoxté, El
Pital, and others. In 1992 she presented her habilitation work in Graz, a document that
compiled her field experiences and the theories on the urban structure of that time; manuscript in German language, with few copies available, which has been an example of study and application by professionals from Spain and Guatemala.
