Abstract

This historiographical writing aims to foster an interest on the physical changes a
former parrish from late seventeenth century experienced throughout its history, due to singular and relevant conditions, both in terms of its geographic and ecclesiastical hierarchy, mainly when it was proclaimed as cathedral and, later on, when several unfinished proposals were undertaken during the end of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as part of an attempt to made it “Modern”, according to the then called “revival styles” such as the neo-Gothic, which was preferred as perhaps most impressive
