Abstract

The authorities of numerous universities and faculties around the world seek to be recognized as "green". Some universities are sensitized and friendly to the environment. Therefore, they are promoting an interaction between knowledge, human resources (teachers, students, and suppliers) and their environment. That is, they provide concrete solutions that contribute to the reduction of the environmental impact, creating
sustainable academic entities. Therefore, this article focused on establishing which of
two types of environmental management methods is the most appropriate to be used
in a university. The methods studied were: 1) Reverse Logistics (LI), or strategy that
seeks to recover the waste generated and given adequate treatment, and, 2) Cleaner
Production (P + L), which seeks to minimize the waste generation and ensure Good
Environmental Practices (BPMA). At the same time, this essay sought to know what
differences exist between the LI and the P + L? In this way, the solid waste generated
at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of San Carlos de Guatemala (FARUSAC) was studied, as a specific case, evaluating the behavior of the population regarding the subject, in addition, concluding and recommending the most appropriate method.
