Abstract

Carlos Merida was artistically trained in an integral and privileged way both in Guatemala and in Paris with the artistic avant-garde of the moment, coinciding with Guatemalan intellectuals such as Luis Cardoza y Aragon. An almost random review of a sample from your personal library confirms the above. The ability to evolve and reinvent itself in Carlos Merida is very worthwhile, executing works of small and large scale (murals) in Mexico, Guatemala and San Antonio Texas, United States, in collaboration with modernist architects. The conformation of the Technical Table of Modern Built Heritage revalues the work, not only of Merida but of a team of modernist artists and architects of first level who execute an urbanistic set (Heart of City) with plastic integration
in architecture, with motives and inspiration of local culture (maya in particular)
but of universal scope. The Technical Committee proposes, among other actions,
to revitalize the Civic Center of Guatemala City through the planning and execution of
a Master Plan, as well as its impetus for World Heritage.
